Cranmore House – Nenthead, North Pennines
Sleeps 7 | 3 bedrooms | Multiple dogs welcome | Horses welcome
Escape to Cranmore House, a spacious off grid traditional country cottage in Nenthead, one of England’s highest villages, surrounded by the wild landscapes of the North Pennines.
🏆 Winner – Best Dog Friendly Retreats, Cumbria 2023
Made for guests who don't want to leave their dogs behind, Cranmore welcomes multiple dogs of all breeds, with an enclosed garden, private paddock, access to additional paddocks, dog-friendly flooring and walks straight from the doorstep. Dogs stay free, and horses are welcome too, with turnout available by prior arrangement (stables no longer available).
Inside, you'll find all the comforts of a proper country retreat: a traditional open fire, log burner and wood-fuelled Aga-Rayburn, alongside a well-equipped modern kitchen. There are three generous bedrooms sleeping up to seven guests, plus plenty of space for families and groups to relax.
Set within the North Pennines National Landscape and UNESCO Global Geopark, Cranmore is surrounded by waterfalls, moorland, historic mines, cycling routes and spectacular walking country. Wildlife including red squirrels, deer, grouse and pheasants can often be spotted nearby, while its Dark Sky setting makes evenings around the firepit particularly special.
Despite feeling wonderfully remote, Cranmore is ideally placed for exploring Cumbria, the Lake District, Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire, as well as the Pennine Way, C2C route and Hadrian's Wall.
Come here for muddy paws, big skies, roaring fires and the freedom to properly switch off.
Dogs welcome. Horses welcome. No judgement. Just space to roam.
